  • What is stamped concrete?

Stamped Concrete is the process of pressing decorative or natural impressions into wet concrete using rubber stamps. This is a great way to add a unique flair to your , pool deck, patio, walkway or walls.

There are many benefits to using stamped concrete. Concrete is one of the most durable building materials available for paving, which comes in handy in high traffic areas such as driveways and walkways.

Choosing stamped concrete over other paving materials such as natural stone can be a more economical choice. Done right, stamped concrete can look just as high quality as these other methods. For instance, a stamped concrete job can be installed in a portion of the time as natural materials takes, which allows contractors to be more productive.

The biggest advantage to stamped concrete is the flexibility. Concrete stamping, combined with different finishing techniques, allows for unlimited design opportunities such as aged cobblestones, brickwork, flagstones, slate tile, marble, granite, wood, or just about any natural surface.

    What is stamped overlay?

Stamped overlays is a great way to spice up existing concrete, it would also be useful when removing and replacing concrete is not cost effective for your project. Not only do you have as many options to add creative flare to your project with stamped overlays, but it is also less time and labor intensive to install. Times when stamped overlays are most useful are when there are surrounding structures that run a risk of being damaged during demolition (ie. Stair cases, swimming pools, walls). If the concrete is in good enough shape to restore it, then stamped overlays are recommended.

Stamping an overlay allows you to create a distinctive pattern to match your surroundings and add appeal to the area. Using the stamping patterns, you can create stone, slate, brick, wood, cobblestone and many other patterns for a fraction of the cost. The durability of concrete makes stamping overlays a great alternative to other masonry materials.

The minimum concrete that needs to be applied is 3/8 inch. You may need to apply more concrete depending on the deepness of the impression on the concrete stamp.

Can these stamps be used for overlays?
Yes, however, on some of the deeper patterns you may need to put down a 3/8 - 7/16 of an inch.

What is the difference between a flex (or floppy) and a rigid?

The rigid mat is double the thickness and has handles. You use the rigid mat to imprint the majority of the stamping job. The floppy has no handles and is about half the thickness of a rigid which allows you to bend the mat at a 90 degree angle. The floppy mat can be used to stamp around the edges of the stamping area, walls, stairs and hard to get at areas.

Why do I have to use rigid mats rather than only using floppies?

The floppy mats are not rigid enough to stand on. They are simply used for the edge of the area or areas against the wall. In order to get the best impression, it is required that you use the rigid mat.

How many mats will I need for my job?

To complete your stamping job you will need as many rigid mats to completely cover the width of the area to be stamped plus a couple additional mats to start the next row. In addition to the rigid mats, you will require 1 floppy mat and an S-tool. Having enough stamps is very important to complete the job, be prepared. 2 rows of mats are ideal; you can never have too many mats.

Why do some mat sets have different colors?

The different colors represent various patterns that give slightly different impressions which avoids repetitious patterns allowing the finished job to look natural. The color coding system differentiates the patterns in the set. It is recommended that when laying out the mats, do not place the same color pattern next to each other. This will help to eliminate duplicating the texture patterns.
